This fall, Voice for Adoption will again conduct our Adoptive
Family Portrait Project to celebrate adoption and raise awareness about the experiences of families that
adopt waiting children from foster care. This year’s project
will focus on the importance of sibling connections for youth who are adopted from foster care. Please join us for this exciting project!
Participating members of Congress will display a photo of a constituent family
that has adopted children from foster care. We will also provide
each participating Congressional office with information about
the family’s adoption experience and how federal child welfare
programs have affected the family. This project is a great and simple way for members of Congress to show their commitment to finding permanent families for all waiting children --all you have to do is sign up for the project and VFA will match your office with an adoptive family to feature.
Ways to Be Involved
- Sponsor our project—We have sponsorship opportunities for every budget, making it possible for individuals and organizations to provide financial support for this project. All sponsors will be acknowledged in the program booklet, and higher-lever sponsors receive additional benefits, including featured recognition at our Capitol Hill reception. Click here for a detailed list of sponsorship opportunities.
- Encourage your members of Congress to participate
—Please contact your Senators' and Representative's offices to encourage them to be part of the Adoptive Family Portrait Project. Hearing from constituents will make it more likely that members of Congress will participate.
- Identify adoptive families to feature—We are looking for adoptive families whose family portraits will be displayed in the Washington, DC, office of a member of Congress. We will also need information about each family's adoption experiences in order to share stories with the member of Congress. We will match Senators and Representatives with a family from their home state or home district (for Representatives). This year's project will focus on the importance of maintaining sibling connections for youth, so we are particularly interested in identifying families that have adopted sibling groups or otherwise helped keep biological siblings connected.
